The Civic Society has been highly successful in campaigning for the preservation of Clitheroe’s history and has fiercedly challenged councils and developers. From those quarters it might be percieved that the Society is against change but that’s not the case. This up-dated website showcases how the society is making the local environment better for the community and is producing guidence for councils and developers to help them make better informed decisions for the future.
One of the members has produced the “Clitheroe Town Centre Shopfront Design Guide”. It’s a practical and legal guide for shop owners and tenants who are considering improvements or repairs to existing shopfronts or when designing new shopfronts. Once you’ve read it you’ll never be able to shop without looking up at the shop fronts!
Then there’s the work of the Cultivating Clitheroe group who’s frustrations with the Ribble Valley Borough Council has energised them to clean up the town, instal flower planters around the centre and do gardening improvements in the Castle grounds.
So hopefully this new website illustrates all the great work the Society does and with that it gains more respect from councils and developers and credability from potential funders.
